Custom Designing Company Logos For Construction Firms
The construction arena is very competitive indeed. More established organizations handle the larger development jobs while smaller and newer companies must prove their quality with numerous subcontracts before moving on to bigger projects.
My design firm has just been given an assignment to develop a new construction logo design for a local construction company. To start things off, the art director and I paid a visit to our client’s office for a short interview to learn more about the company.
Like many others we have interviewed, most companies instinctively know they need a new image to help them compete but are not really sure what they want. That is where we come into play.
Before embarking on the logo design, we ordinarily inquire about the company history, its turnover, its objectives, its specialty, its target market and why it wants a new construction logo design; just to get a better feel of things.
We determined that they are a relatively young organization, 9 years in the business with 4 major subcontract projects and many minor ones under their belts, each one more costly than the last. They are now looking to adopt a blue ocean strategy and proceed into eco-friendly medium cost suburban development - a niche with a low number of competitors - and consequently seizing the opportunity to make a name for themselves as one of the few names to engage this niche.
From the meeting, we ascertained that they have the necessary resources to take on medium scale development projects. Their selected niche has rendered it much easier to differentiate them from other developers.
At our studio, we had a typical brainstorming session and and decided on the concept we would finally adopt. After that we designated 4 designers to produce individual interpretations or logo samples to turn those concepts to logo designs.
After several days, the logo concepts were ready for perusal. Some designs made use of stylized text while others utilized construction related graphics like levelers and trowels to get the point across. Even though all 4 construction logo design samples were unique in their own way, they all kept to to two main points.
Professionalism
Developers deal with multimillion dollar projects. As a prerequisite to be awarded such projects, they must always be regarded as a professional and responsible entity with good business ethics. Subsequently, the tidy and clear designs reflected that appropriately.
Eco-Friendliness
This is the niche this organization wants to penetrate. Obviously, the designs, either by color or graphics, reiterate the company’s commitment to the preservation of the environment.
Finally it is up to our clients to select one of the four design concepts. However they could make minor alterations but as professional designers, we must make certain the design in the end keeps to the key points stated earlier.
