Custom Designing Company Logos For Construction Firms

The construction sector is getting increasingly competitive. Bigger organizations handle the larger development projects while smaller and newer ones must display their quality with several subcontracts before moving on to larger ones.

My design firm has just been given an assignment to produce a new construction logo design for a local construction company. To start things off, the art director and I made a visit to our client’s office for a short meeting to gather more information about the company.

Like many other clients we have interviewed, most companies recognize they need a new look to remain competitive but are not exactly sure what they want. That is where our services come in handy.

Before embarking on the logo design, we commonly inquire about the history of the organization, its turnover, its objectives, its specialty, its target market and the reason it wants a new construction logo design; just to get a better understanding of things.

We learned that they are a relatively young organization, 11 years in the business with 4 large subcontract projects and many minor ones under their belts, each one more costly than the last. They are now moving to adopt a blue ocean strategy and proceed into eco-friendly medium cost suburban development - a niche with very few competitors - and subsequently taking the opportunity to garner a reputation for themselves as one of the few names to service this niche.

From the dialogue, we found out that they have the needed resources to carry out medium scale development projects. Their selected niche has rendered it much easier to tell them apart from other developers.

At our agency, we had our usual brainstorming session and charted our art direction. After that we designated 4 designers to produce individual interpretations or logo samples to turn those concepts to logos.

After a few days, the design concepts were ready for show. Some designs made use of stylized text while others utilized construction related graphics like mixers and countersink bits to get the point across. Although all four construction logo design samples were unique in their own way, they all clung to two crucial points.

Professionalism
Developers deal with multimillion dollar projects. As a prerequisite to be awarded such projects, they must always be regarded as a professional and responsible entity with ideal business ethics. Subsequently, the clean and clear designs reflected that appropriately.

Eco-Friendliness
This is the niche this firm has set out to penetrate. Naturally, the designs, either by color or graphics, calls to attention the company’s dedication to the preservation of the environment.

Alas it is up to our clients to decide on which of the four designs they prefer. Alternatively they can certainly make minor alterations but as professional designers, we must make certain the design ultimately keeps to the key points pointed out earlier.
